I took my car to Power Toyota of Buena Park in Buena Park, California to fix a small problem. The technician and service manager who were working on my vehicle demonstrated to me what was a total lack of diagnostic ability.

After a short time they declared that they failed to discover a problem, and became rude and combative when I asked them to please check it again. They refused to check the vehicle again, and charged me for one hour of diagnostic time although they claimed there was no problem that they could find

I sincerely wish that all mechanics will soon become idiots like the ones who were working on my car at Toyota of Buena Park.

Please,forgive my rude language, but this time I was really disappointed with the dealership staff (7 years ago when other people worked there, that place was really great).

Ok..here's the story. I went to the dealership with 2 things in mind: Oil change and seeking opinion for a noise coming from my wife's 2003 Corolla (Front left side). My guess it was the bearing and ready for the repair if the cost is reasonable. I came..the gentlemen was working on his own..I believe it's about 12 o'clock.. I don't get any greeting/ eye contact or nothing (You know like: " I'll be right with you sir or something"..). I feel a little ignored but I think..it's almost lunch and this guy probably hungry or something... He finally get to me and write up the order..and he put an estimate of $ 34.95 for the oil change and $ 99.00 under "estimate" on the bottom. He asked me to sign and I signed the paper work. To make story short 3 hours later he called and said that the brakes is gone as well as the rotors, water pump need to be replaced and engine seal too need to replaced. Price about $ 400.00 for the brakes, $ 550.00 for the water pump and oil change (I think $ 34.95). My order was just to do the oil change and will come back when I have the fund/ discuss with my spouse. When its time to pick up the car this Service sales person show me the invoice and it shows that I need to pay $ 162.00!! When I asked him he said that I did sign the paper work and need to pay the excess amount (aside of the oil change)for the inspection charge and the cost to test drive the car. I asked the sales service person to reverse this because I am not paying for this due to the fact that each time I went there although I am not asking for anything they always give me this sheet of paper with boxes and checked mark indicating what is at fault and need repair or attention. (I did asked to see his supervisor and he immediately said that he's going to reverse the extra charges) I told him I work on cars and I know how to get to the problem that he saw and it does not worth more than $ 20.00 vs the $120.00 that he charge ===> just take off the tire and "Bingo" brakes is gone sir... He replied and being so rude and challenge me as a customer.."Did you see what you are signing.." Once - He did try to exercise his authority to me by flexing and try to appear bigger. One more time he still try to inflict argument. I can appreciate that business needs to generate revenue to keep afloat especially during this hard times, but I totally disagree about this kind of practice..it's almost like robbery. My thought was: "Am I the only victim that speak out?" Are there people like me that afraid to say something because they thought its the real cost...I feel sorry if my elderly father, sister or relatives, friends, neighbors, senior citizen that came here and get "Jack" by this person/ dealership. For the dealership: "Guys..be ethical..explain to clients before the job is done and charged...No hidden fee please..Don't charge hours that you didn't do..(I know how this work..my friend works for Toyota and he was encouraged to do this..i.e. Brake job is a 3 hour job etc. I know repair cost money, but charged customer to the extent that it was previously approved and most importantly don't give false information i.e. to fix something that don't need to be replaced. Later on today I brought my car to an independent Toyota mechanic and they find that my bearings on the left side (I indicate before) is worn out and that's why it's make noise. Funny things that Toyota of Buena Park said that they did their due diligence by test drove the car, but didn't find this flaw. For Customers: When you feel that charges isn't right.then probably you should asked for explanation.Consult people that you can trust and know cars before you go to the dealer. Just because you sign that doesn't mean it's the end.you have right..exercise it and protect your hard earned Dollar.
